More about post-apocalyptic (dis-)beliefs

Personally, I do not think that the world is beyond the carrying capacity for our species, in fact, in 2009, UN projections for 2050 range from about 8 billion to 10.5 billion (Wikipedia). As a scientist and biologist, it is obvious to me too that the world is changing - but that has happened numerous times over the eras. I do not agree that "as a fact of ecology" the world population will shrink, there is no or very little scientific evidence for such a statement. In fact it is very hard, if not impossible to arrive at a reliable prediction when what will happen.
An obsessive fixation on the worst doomsday scenario won't help the person that suffers from it - neither will it help humankind to solve the challenges that were identified. In fact, sometimes it seems that some post-apocalypse fans actually yearn for the catastrophe to come – that is an interesting escapist dimension to the post-apocalyptic culture. http://2journeys.blogspot.com/
